Five Comments
1. The Garcias celebrated their first year in the United Sates with a big dinner
2. The candle in the middle of the flan represented their firs year
3. Carla did not like the changes that her body was going through during puberty
4. Carla was almost raped and  she seen a man masturbate
5.  Carla was frustrated when she couldn't explain what she had seen because she didn't know english very well

1. What did the police do?
2. Is the Garcia family going to move?
3. What school did the other girls go to?
4. Why was Carla changed to another school?

Three Words
1. Orating- to deliver an oration, to speak pompously, declaim (pg. 147)
2. Infinitesimal- indefinitely or exceedingly small (pg. 149)
3. Aghast-  struck with fear, dread, or consternation (pg. 154)

Two Literary Techniques
1. Simile-"The little green squares around each other look-alike house seemed more like carpeting that had to kept clean than yards to play in"(Alvarez 148).
2. Internal Conflict-"Her immigrant father with his thick mustache and accent and three-piece suit would only bring her more ridicule" (Alvarez 152).

One Summary Sentence
1. The Garcia family were struggling with learning English, and Carla has a traumatizing experience.
