Five Comments
1. Yolanda started playing the drum when her grandmother bought her one
2. People in the Dominican Republic think that snow is wonderful, that's the grandmother told Yolanda that if she was good that she would be able to see snow in the US
3. Yolanda didn't go to the coal shed because the maid told her that their were spirits in there
4. Yolanda overcame her fear by going into the coal shed
5. Yolanda put her favorite kitten in her drum

Two Literary Techniques
1. Metaphor-" The class gazed dreamily at the bank half-expecting as if to shoot up to the ceiling un a puff of smoke" (Alvarez 262).
2. Simile- "My father unlocked the bottom and out came a few less than a hundred pennies, and he kindly made up the difference and gave me a big silver dollar that looked more like jewelry than money " (Alvarez 262).
One Summary Sentence
1. Yolanda was trying to learn how to play the drum and was taken care of the kittens that she found in the coal shed.
