Evil Hour In Columbia by Forrest Hylton Journal Entry 9

Five Comments
1. A lot of the public policies during the 1990's had to do with counterinsurgency wars
2. There were a lot of peace negotiations going on
3. In Columbia there was a lot of military expansion
4. Plan Colombia's goal was to put a stop on narcotics
5. Political programs were focusing on strengthening the central government

Four Questions
1. What does FARC stand for?
2. What was the "aid " package for?
3. What was the rate of narcotics?
4. Why did the U.s try to help Colombia?

Three Words
1. Involution: the state of being involved or complicated
2. Hackles: the hairs on the back of a person's neck
3. Coincided: occur at or during the same time

Two Literary Techniques
1. Simile: "- the idea being that since FARC functioned like a cartel..." (Hylton 101).
2. Metaphor: "Ghosts from la Violencia reappeared: the overcoming of personal trauma..." (Hylton 104).

One Sentence 
1. Columbia's political parties had a whole new direction, they were now concentrating on making their central government stronger.
