Evil Hour In Columbia by Forrest Hylton Journal Entry 7

Five Comments
1. La Vilencia began in the coffee zone
2. Before Gaitan was assassinated, him and Fidel Castro met in Bogota
3. The leaders of Columbia were creoles
4. Gaitan was assassinated when he was on his way to meet Fidel Castro for the second time
5. There were conflicts between people of different classes and race


Four Questions
1. Why did La Violencia begin in the coffeee zone?
2. Why were Castro and Gaitan meeting?
3. How long did La Violencia period last?
4. Why was Columbia part of the cold war?

Three words
1. Napalm: a highly flammable sticky jelly used in incendiary bombs
2. Radicalized: cause someone to become part of radical political or social reform
3. Unionized: become or cause to become members of a labor union

Two Literary Terms
1. Personification: "But the fuel has been given off by urban desks, worked through with coldness and astutelty elaborated in order to produce its fruits of blood." (Hylton 39)
2. Metaphor: "Yet this resistance further ignited the counterrevolution in the countryside" (Hylton 42).
